Program Purpose
EmpowerHer Journey is a transformational support program offered within Mended Wings Housing that focuses on developing the whole girl—mind, body, and spirit. It’s designed to help girls heal from trauma, build critical life and soft skills, explore their identity, and envision a future filled with purpose and possibility.
Core Focus Areas
- Personal Development: Confidence-building, self-care, and goal setting
- Education Support: Tutoring, academic coaching, and college/career readiness
- Life & Leadership Skills: Communication, decision-making, and professionalism
- Emotional Wellness: Counseling, mindfulness, and trauma-informed care
- Cultural Connection: Mentorship and celebrating heritage & identity

40% Of The Young Adults Leaving Foster Care Will Be Homeless Within 18 Months. For The 20,000 Who Age Out Of The System Each Year, 97% Will Experience Chronic Poverty.
By Age 17 over 50% of foster children have experienced an arrest, conviction, or detention.
Youth who experience five or more placement changes have a 90% likelihood of involvement with the criminal justice system
71% of young women who have been in foster care become pregnant by age 21, compared to 34% of their peers not in foster care.
Nationwide, only about half of youth raised in foster care end up finishing high school. Less than 5% graduate from a four-year college. And 2-6% complete a degree from a two-year college.
